My status at notebooks4free is officially STV (Sent to Vendor in freesite lingo).

This usually means that the freesite actually placed the order with the vendor who sells the product (in this case, an Apple 14.1" iBook G4 1.44GHz) and they are just waiting on the vendor (hopefully Apple.com) to ship the item so they can change the status to shipped and hopefully provide a tracking number.

Looking at my list of referrals, it looks like I had almost 1500 (1496) people signup under me for this site, and only 18 had completed offers. I had to actually copy and paste the list into a text document and look at the line count to see them all!

When I took at look at the box and saw that it was from GratisNetwork's fulfillment company, efulfillment, I knew it had to be my PSP!

I opened the box to see my very own, free Sony Portable Playstation Value Pack (with free sampler video). I don't remember which offer I did at the freepsps.com site to qualify for the PSP, but I think I just bought some ink for my printer through one of the Gratis offer links.  I was running low on ink anyway, so it worked out perfectly :)

When I total up all the free stuff I've received from both GratisNetwork and OfferCentric, it has totalled over $2000 worth of free stuff (see my phone cam picture of all my free stuff below):

The sites and claims by GratisNetwork are definitely real. You should always read the terms of service before signing up for any service, but I can tell you from my own experience with several freesites published by GratisNetwork that they do deliver on their promise to deliver cool tech gifts. 

My one piece of advice that I would highly suggest you follow if you decide to signup for any of the GratisNetwork or OfferCentric sites is: Don't try to cheat the freesites and pick "offers" that you genuinely are interested in (like Blockbuster online or Netflix).

As long as you don't try to cheat, you should have no problem getting all types of free gifts from GratisNetwork or OfferCentric!

The following websites are great resources for getting help competing the requirements for the various freesites like freeipods.com, psps4free.com and others.

RefStop

RefStop is a revolutionary service designed to provide members of all the free prize sites (such as FreeiPods.com) to get together in one place and quickly and easily trade referrals. RefStop.com gives you an amazing opportunity to get in contact with a whole group of people who are all looking to do offers for each other without needing to download any tracking software!

Basically how it works is: Let's say you need 3 more referrals to complete the requirements at freeipods.com. You've already got two of your friends to try it out, but you're having a hard time getting 3 more.

Referral Swapper allows users to trade referral links for free product websites (such as FreeiPods.com) and other referral-based programs. Users are automatically matched up with other people to make trading easy and efficient.

I have to say, that was a super quick turnaround time when it comes to freesites! I received notification that my account had passed review on Tuesday morning (Apr 26, 2005). Since Gratis doesn't send out emails that notify you when your item has shipped, I've been relying on icfreepod to light up. And today it did:

They used UPS instead of DHL for this shipment. It appears the PC is coming direct from the CyberPower production facility, which is located in California. That means I get my new Gamer PC tomorrow!

Today, I'd like to introduce OfferCentric, LLC the next biggest player giving out cool free stuff! OfferCentric has made a name for itself by following the referral based free gift theme but with a few extras that help it standout from the GratisNetwork shadow...

OfferCentric is successful by adding friendly Customer Service to the freesite mix.  Emails to customer service are often answered with "human like" answers instead of the cold, and sometimes unfriendly answers that people have received when trying to contact GratisNetwork with issues. 

They also send friendly email notifications when the offer you complete has registered in their system.

Another important distinction is that once you have received the necessary number of referrals, your account is automatically sent for review. Once your account has been reviewed for legitimacy, then you are sent an email notification letting you know you can order your free gift through their site. 

This is in contrast to the system setup at GratisNetwork, where you have to remember to login to your account to see if you have completed all your referrals so you can click the "Request Approval" link for your account to be reviewed before you can place your order.

They also offer the option to get cold hard cash (payable via PayPal) when you complete the necessary referrals, which allows you to spend the money any way you like.

For example, I recently completed their PSPS4Free site which requires 5 referrals (similar to Gratis) to get a free Sony Portable Playstation (PSP).  Since I already had a free PSP coming from Gratis, I decided to take the $250 cash so I can buy some cool games for my soon-to-arrive PSP.

From the many reports I've read on the web regarding the processing time from free gift ordering to delivery, they seem to have a much quicker turnaround than their GratisNetwork counterparts. Of course, this could be attributed partly to the fact that GratisNetwork is a much larger company which has a larger memberbase of members to manage.

I placed my "order" for my $250 via PayPal today, and from I understand, I should have the payment in my PayPal account by this Wednesday or Friday. I'll be sure to report back once it has been received.

I like being able to fully test out sites before I recommend them to others. That way, if I find out a site isn't legitimate, it's only me that gets burned, rather than sharing the bad mojo with my friends and family. I submitted my account for review on Monday morning about 8am, within 2 HOURS it was approved.

We'll see how long it takes to make it to my doorstep. Reports seem to say that the time in STV status is about 2 weeks.

I hope this is a sign of things to come with Gratis, like many people, I'm still waiting for some update on my Free PSP order.

I actually completed all my referrals several weeks ago and have been processing for a couple of weeks now.

Like many who have completed the freepsps offer from Gratis, I am stuck in the processsing stage due to Gratis's lack of PSP inventory.

They originally said they had "pre-ordered a ton" of Sony PSPs, so we would most likely be getting our free ones before our friends got theirs.

It seems like their pre-order didn't go as planned. Many local stores have the PSPs in stock (target, walmart, bestbuy, circuit city, etc), however Gratis still hasn't received their "pre-order" shipment.

So like most things in the freesite world, it comes down to a waiting game :) I'm not too worried about it because Gratis has come through time and time again with delivery of cool free stuff. This one will probably just take longer to ship than the others.

On a happy note, I'm very close to completing my requirements for the freedesktoppc from Gratis!

I like that DHL delivers both early in the day and earlier than their "estimated delivery date" on the website. Looks like they do the "estimating" the old fashioned way; overestimate a bit so you're never late :)

So far this makes a free ipod, a free samsung flatscreen LCD TV/Monitor, and now the new, super hot, free ipod shuffle that I've received from Gratis. Hopefully I can get a free photo ipod for my wife, so she can stop using my iPod :)

Once I receive my iPod shuffle, that will be the 3rd free item I've received from Gratis. They are a great freesite network to deal with!

I've received several free items from the various free sites published by GratisNetwork and OfferCentric. I've also done a bit of research on the "business" behind the free giveaway model.

Here's how it works in a nutshell:

When you register at a site like freeipods.com, the first thing you do is select which free gift you want by clicking on the button under the gift, enter your email address and create a password.

After you enter your email address and click the "Continue" button, you will be taken to a series of surveys. Feel free to answer yes or no to the surveys, however they do not have an effect on you getting your free gift.

After the last survey question, you will be taken to the main freeipods (or whichever freesite you signed up with) "Welcome" screen. This page lists the "offers" that you have to choose from.  You have to complete one offer before you can qualify for your free gift.

An offer can be any type of free trial, product or service that is listed on the Welcome screen. You have to click through the links on the offers page to make sure your offer is tracked correctly.

This is an important part of the process, because this is how the freesites like Gratis and OfferCentric get "paid" so they can give away the cool free gifts like free ipods, flatscreens, laptop computers and more!

Just select one of the offers that interests you the most. There are usually quite a few to choose from and they try to put in relevant offers so there is something for everyone:

Right now, it looks like it's just a waiting game.

This offer has been a little bit slower to generate referrals for than the freeipod offer was.

There was a small glitch in the signup process at FreeFlatScreens, so when you got to the third step of the signup process, one of their pages showed up blank.

This caused people to be confused as to their signup status. Many of the people I talked to didn't know they could still login and complete an offer.

I contacted freeipodclub.com using their online form and they tell me they have the situation fixed.

After a small misdirection by the UPS sorting center, the man in the brown suit has delivered my free iPod!

Looks like freeipods.com ordered the 20 GB ipod from ecost.com. 

Because of the long backorder on the iPods and the new launch of the HP (hard drive) Powered iPods, freeipods.com allowed me to select an HP ipod as my freeipod choice (even after my order was already placed) so my order could be fulfilled faster:

Virtually 2 months to the day I signed up for freeipods.com (thanks Ned), I received my free ipod at my doorstep.

I placed the order on August 6, 2004 after I had completed all my referrals, and 6 and a half weeks later, I got my ship notification via email:

I logged into my freeipods.com account and sure enough, the order status changed from "Sent to Vendor, Waiting on Product" to SHIPPED with a UPS tracking number next to it!

Depending on where they are shipping the ipod from, I should have it within 1-5 business days! I was able to choose a different freeipod because of the backorder on the regular ipods from apple. I got one of the new HP + ipod powered ipods. Same thing as the original, just with an HP hard drive.

Now that my free ipod is on the way, I can't wait until I complete the requirements for my free flat screen or my free desktop PC!

Looks like my free ipod has been sent to the vendor for fulfillment.

Hopefully, that means I should be receiving my freeipod by the end of the week.

Looking at their FAQ, it shows that their supplier is backordered on the 20 GB iPods (that's the one I picked), so it should be shipping out sometime next week or so.

They must be getting backed up on the freeipod offers.

A good note here to remind folks not to try to "game the system" with these free offers. GratisInternet checks all the referrals very carefully for any sign of fraud.

Looks like today or tomorrow might be the day when I cross the 5 referral threshold and then I'm one step closer to my free ipod!

Once I have reached 5 completed referrals, I will be switching my referral links on this page to those who helped me get my free ipod.

Makes me think I actually have a chance at getting a free flat screen now.

On July 29, I had several referrals with the status "Joined, but offer not completed".

That day, I got more encouraged about the offer, thinking I actually have a shot at getting my 5 referrals, so I added the link to my signature in my outgoing emails (which, coincidentally, is how I found the link in the first place...thanks Ned!)

Today, July 30, 2004, I have my first 2 happy green circled checkmarks that mean 2 of my referrals are of the "Offer completed" status (see attached image)!

Woo Hoo...free iPod, here I come!
